What are the classifications of Antistatic Agents? -Customized Antistatic Solutions from DEBORN

Antistatic agents are becoming increasingly necessary to address issues such as electrostatic adsorption in plastic, short circuits, and electrostatic discharge in electronics.

According to different usage methods, antistatic agents can be divided into two categories: internal additives and external coatings.

It can also be divided into two categories based on the performance of antistatic agents: temporary and permanent.

Materials Applied to Category I Category II

Plastic

Internal
(Melting & Mixing)

Surfactant
Conductive Polymer (Masterbatch)
Conductive Filler (Carbon Black etc.)

External

Surfactant
Coating/Plating
Conductive Foil

The general mechanism of surfactant-based antistatic agents is that the hydrophilic groups of antistatic substances face towards the air, absorbing environmental moisture, or combining with moisture through hydrogen bonds to form a single-molecule conductive layer, allowing static charges to dissipate rapidly and achieve anti-static purposes.

The new type of permanent antistatic agent conducts and releases static charges through ion conduction, and its anti-static ability is achieved through a special molecular dispersion form. Most permanent antistatic agents achieve their antistatic effect by reducing the volume resistivity of the material, and do not rely entirely on surface water absorption, so they are less affected by environmental humidity.

Besides plastics, the use of antistatic agents is widespread. The following is a classification table according to application of anti-static agents in various fields.

Application Method of use Examples

Plastic

Mixing when producing PE, PP, ABS, PS, PET, PVC etc.
Coating/Spraying/Dipping Film and other plastic products

Textile Related Materials

Mixing when producing Polyester, Nylon etc.
Dipping Various fibers
Dipping/Spraying Cloth, Semi finished clothing

Paper

Coating/Spraying/Dipping Printing paper and other paper products

Liquid Substance

Mixing Aviation fuel, Ink, Paint etc.

Whether it’s temporary or permanent, whether it’s surfactants or polymers, we are able provide customized solutions based on your needs.
