Poor Weather Resistance? Something you need to know about PVC

PVC is a common plastic that is often made into pipes and fittings, sheets and films, etc.

It is low-cost and has a certain tolerance to some acids, alkalis, salts, and solvents, making it particularly suitable for contact with oily substances. It can be made into a transparent or opaque appearance as needed, and is easy to color. It is widely used in construction, wire and cable, packaging, automotive, medical and other fields.

However, PVC has poor thermal stability and is prone to decomposition at processing temperatures, releasing hydrogen chloride (HCl), resulting in material discoloration and decreased performance. Pure PVC is brittle, especially prone to cracking at low temperatures, and requires the addition of plasticizers to improve flexibility. It has poor weather resistance, and when exposed to light and heat for a long time, PVC is prone to aging, discoloration, brittleness, etc.

Therefore, PVC stabilizers must be added during the processing to effectively prevent thermal decomposition, extend lifespan, maintain appearance, and improve processing performance.

To improve the performance and appearance of the finished product, producers often add small amounts of additives. Adding OBA can improve the whiteness of PVC products. Compared with other whitening methods, using OBA has lower costs and significant effects, making it suitable for large-scale production. Antioxidants, light stabilizers, UV absorbers plasticizers, etc are good choices for extending the product's lifespan.
